Strains and deformations induce unique features in graphene and other two dimensional materials, such as the transition metal dichalcogenides.

We review the interplay between two dimensionality, and elastic and electronic properties in these materials. We will also consider other novel uses of graphene, such as the possibility of it being a platform for quantum computing.
