Madrid, 9th April, 2026. Dr. Valle Palomo has been awarded one of the top five prizes in Healthstart madri+d, the program for accelerating entrepreneurial projects in healthcare settings. Healthstart is an initiative of the Madri+d Foundation and the Platform for Innovation in Medical and Healthcare Technologies (ITEMAS), promoted by the Carlos III Health Institute. It offers specialized training in startup creation and management, and each edition culminates in the awarding of prizes to the most mature projects with the greatest potential for impact.
Researcher Valle Palomo leads the neuroscience biosensors group at IMDEA Nanociencia, which focuses on the use of nanoparticles and biological chemistry to understand pathological mechanisms and therapeutic recovery. Her team has participated in Healthstart with a project for the early diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), based on quantum dots and the analysis of proteins in patients’ blood cells, in collaboration with the San Carlos Clinical Hospital Health Research Foundation. This innovative strategy combines nanotechnology and flow cytometry to rapidly detect biomarkers using standard clinical equipment.
